Verdejo IGP Tierra de Castilla y León 2023, Casto Pequeno
Delicious Spanish Verdejo which is a joy to drink on its own, with tapas or seafood. Plenty of bright, orchard fruit flavours and typical Spanish intensity.
One of the rare remaining family vineyards is this part of the DO Rueda, the vineyard is female owned and run by Purificación Pequeno, who took over from her father. Grapes are grown on 65 year old vines and harvested in the dead of night to retain all the flavour of the fruit. The grapes are macerated for up to 12 hours then very gently pressed, remaining on their lees until clarification to provide extra body and flavour.
In the glass
Aromatic and fresh. Complex white orchard fruits, grapefruit and citrus aromas with discreet spicy notes of fennel and fresh almond with well-balanced acidity on the fresh finish.
About the vineyard
One of the rare remaining family vineyards is this part of Rueda. Grapes are harvested at the dead of night to preserve all their freshness at this low-intervention vineyard.
