Choosing Wedding Wines

Choosing wines for your wedding is one of the most important decisions you make, alongside your choice of food, flowers, rings and of course the guest list! Want to find the best white wine, the perfect red wine or the perfect sparkling wine or Champagne for your wedding?

Read our blog to find out more about why your choice of wines can make all the difference to your perfect day.

Wedding Wine Tips

The last thing you want on your big day is to be worrying about details that you've sorted out months in advance. One of the easiest ones to tick off your list - is to choose wines that match your menu, your mood, your budget and your guest list by coming to an experienced wine merchant.

  • People often as us which is the best Champagne to serve at a wedding, or whether it is okay to serve a good Sparkling Wine as an alternative. The truth is that it all depends on a variety of factors that are entirely personal to you and that we would spend time finding out.
  • Red wines for wedding receptions can make the difference between a meal that feels balanced, harmonious and special to one where the wine is largely left on the table at the end of the meal.
  • White wines for weddings can be even trickier - as sadly all too often they are acidic, hard on the digestion and again - often left on the table.
  • It's extremely important to make sure that the wedding wine you choose is easy to drink over a long period of time and that leaves your guests with a feeling of well-being, rather than with acid reflux and a pounding headache!
  • The time spent choosing your menu should also be spent on choosing your wines to make sure the whole wedding reception experience is a real pleasure.

As most people do not have the knowledge or experience to undertake their own wedding wine tasting - they sometimes end up making a costly mistake. We only work with growers we know and love and have years of experience in matching beautifully made wines with wedding food. From top table wines and fine wedding wines, to bridal wines, wines for the rehearsal dinner, wines for the toast - we have it all. We even supply wines for hen nights and stag parties and wine gifts for bridesmaids and groomsmen.

We guarantee that coming to Wine at Home for your wedding wine will save you time, ensure you get the best possible selection and may also save you money. We certainly never see much in the way of leftovers!

When you choose your wine supplier, make sure they are happy to talk you through each suggestion, supply choices for a range of budgets, and will explain why each wine matches the menu. Not just that white wine goes with fish or red wine with meat (for example), but which wines will really bring out the best in your chosen menu.

When you tell us the number of guests you've invited, we will work out how much wine you need to ensure you have plenty to see you through the day, but not too much leftover!

We will take a look at your menu and advise you on wines that will pair perfectly with the food, as well as advising on options for canapés, aperitifs and toasts.

Yes. We always allow you to sample the wines before reaching a final decision.

We offer a free in person tasting at our London office where we talk you through the wines we've selected, giving you all the background and tasting notes you will need.

or

An online tasting where we charge a cut price rate for the wines we send you - that is fully refundable against the cost of any subsequent wedding order. Our zoom tastings are always fun and have the advantage of taking place in your own home - with as many participants as you like. We will be online to guide you through each wine and will let you know how to prepare for this in advance.

As we import directly from our world wide artisan and fine wine growers, we are able to offer highly competitive prices for large orders that suit a range of budgets. Please fill in the contact form and we will get back to you with more details. We do not charge a 'wedding premium'.

Many venues ask you to pay a corkage fee if you do not buy wine from them. The corkage fee will give you an idea of the profit margin charged by the venue on their wines. Many of our wedding clients prefer to pay the corkage charge and select quality wines that their guests love and that match their menu rather than to spend money on wines that do neither. This is why we always offer our couples a bespoke discount and as we import all our wines ourselves we are able to keep our own profit margins small. You may find that the overall difference in price is not as much as you think.
